Code of Conduct

The scope of our Code of Conduct is to provide a clear set of standards to guide members in how to behave in the organisation, as well as non-members who engage with the WCCA during our events (such as during public panel discussions/talks). Everyone is expected to adhere to the WCCA’s Code of Conduct without exceptions.

Freedom of Expression:

1.1       Members have a right to freedom of expression and belief, as well as the right for this to be respected by other members. This includes the freedom to critique a different perspective, however any critique(s) provided must never be a personal attack upon the individual and must be constructive. Debate the idea and not the person is not just a mantra – it is a value that we put into practice.

1.2       The WCCA is a space for everyone to articulate their own opinions. As such, members shall be respectful of others, and give them space to finish their opinions without interrupting, shouting or talking over them.

1.3       The right to freedom of expression only applies when the expressed belief is one that seeks to do no harm (for example, the perpetuation of far-right ideologies is wholly unacceptable and will not be tolerated). The perpetuation of harmful ideologies such as these will result in the immediate revocation of membership by the WCCA.

Diversity and Inclusion:

2.1       The stance of the WCCA is that a strong working class capable of transformative change is a united one – united across the global North and South, and united with the middle class in solidarity. Our differences are a source of strength – both to the organisation and to populations worldwide. Members must therefore be considerate, respectful, tolerant and civil towards each other.

2.2.      We understand that people have different personal circumstances as well as different preferences for matters such as communication. The WCCA will make every effort to ensure that our activities, communications etc. are as accessible as possible for everyone. However, if you do have a suggestion as to how we can become more accessible, please email us at info@wccalliance.org and we will do our best to accommodate this.

2.3       No one shall be discriminated against, harassed or bullied under any circumstances.

2.4       To raise an issue with the WCCA’s regarding another member(s) behaviour please email us at info@wccalliance.org. In the event that an issue is raised, we will seek to work with all member(s) involved to come to a resolution.

2.5       In the event that a member(s) wishes to raise an issue against the WCCA, the WCCA and those involved will work to find a mediator(s) who have not been involved in the dispute, potentially someone from outside of the organisation, to help settle any dispute(s) in a neutral manner.

2.6       Following an investigation, the WCCA may implement internal changes to the organisation if it is found that there is room for improvement in how we can support our members.

2.7       Investigations may result in the permanent termination of a membership.

2.8       In circumstances where serious allegations have been raised we may suspend a membership whilst investigations continue.
